Melbourn Village College proudly celebrated the achievements of 76 outstanding students at its first annual Awards Evening, held last night in a packed school hall filled with proud parents, staff, and supporters.
The evening recognised students across all year groups, with one award presented per subject to those who demonstrated exceptional achievement, as nominated by their teachers. In addition, special honours were given to students who exemplify the school’s core values of Kindness, Curiosity, and Resilience.
Guests were treated to a vibrant programme of entertainment, including performances by the school choir, piano recitals, and an exclusive preview of the drama department’s upcoming musical production, Annie.
Principal Rachel Spencer reflected on the importance of the occasion, saying:
“Awards evenings are always a highlight of the year because they allow us to pause and reflect — something we often forget to do. We see the hours of work, the progress, the courage, and the quiet determination that might otherwise go unnoticed. Whether the achievements being celebrated are academic, creative, sporting, or contributions to the community – every award represents story of someone pushing themselves, asking questions, persevering, and showing kindness along the way.”
The event was hosted by Vice-Principal Heather Edwards, who shared glowing reports of the students’ successes. Awards were presented by Pippa Heylings MP, adding further prestige to the evening.
The celebration was made possible thanks to the generous support of local businesses, Melbourn Energy Superloop, TTP Plc, Sage Blinds and Interiors, Henbe Communications Ltd, Theatretrain Royston, and Melbourn Springs Care Home.
The Awards Evening not only honoured individual achievement but also highlighted the strength of the Melbourn Village College community — a place where talent, perseverance, and values shine brightly.
